Silks and Shenanigans: The King of the Hill: Seven Barrows’ Guiding Light Returns to Kempton

The “Hill” at Kempton: A New Chapter

While we’re used to seeing Constitution Hill celestializing over hurdles, his second start on the Flat in the 7:30 Virgin Bet Novice Stakes is the headline act. After his thumping 9½-length debut win at Southwell last month, he arrives at Kempton, a track where he previously dominated three Christmas Hurdles, looking to prove he’s just as lethal on the Polytrack.

Insider Views: “The Weight is Off”

Nicky Henderson has been candid about the transition, noting that the decision to retire him from jumping has “lifted the weight off our shoulders.” With Ryan Moore booked for the ride, the message from Seven Barrows is clear: he’s fit, he’s happy, and he’s ready to put on a show. Owner Michael Buckley noted that despite the “heartbreaks” of the past year, the horse’s spirit remains untouchable.

The Pace Angle

Expect a tactical affair. With only seven rivals, there isn’t a confirmed “front-runner” in the mold of a dedicated pacesetter. However, Classical Allusion (Andrew Balding) may try to keep the favorite honest early. Ryan Moore is the master of the “wait-and-see” at Kempton; expect him to track the pace before letting the 106-rated (Timeform) engine purr around the home turn.

Kempton Park: Stats & Facts

Kempton is more than just a “Right-Handed Oval.” It’s a place of strange quirks and betting goldmines:

• The “Winning Habit” Bonus: Favourites at Kempton who won their last race have a strike rate of roughly 40.7%. For Constitution Hill, that’s a statistically cozy cushion.

• The “Station Sider”: It is the only UK racecourse with its own dedicated railway station platform just 200 yards from the entrance. If you miss your train, you can literally watch the 7:30 from the platform.

• The Polytrack Puzzle: Since switching to All-Weather in 2006, the “Inner” and “Outer” tracks offer different experiences. The 1m4f trip uses the Outer Circuit, which has a longer run-in, perfect for a horse with the “Hill’s” massive stride.

Timeform Best Rated & Naps (Wednesday, March 25, 2026)

Based on current ratings and market movement, here are the ones to watch across the card:

• 5:00 Kempton – Thestral (Timeform Rating: 102)

A serious improver over the mile. This progressive type is the top-rated pick for the opener and looks ready to take another step forward.

• 7:00 Kempton – Knight Templar (Timeform Rating: 98)

Highlighted as the “value” bet on the card. While not the highest-rated overall, his tactical versatility makes him a major threat in this field.

• 7:30 Kempton – Constitution Hill (Timeform Rating: 106P)

The undisputed class act of the night. The “P” attached to his rating denotes further potential on the Flat, a scary thought for his rivals.

The Daily Naps:

• The Banker: Constitution Hill (7:30), At 1/6, he’s for the fans rather than the punters, but he is the day’s “certainty.”

• The Value Nap: One Knight (8:00), Emma Lavelle’s charge looks primed for this 2-mile handicap qualifier.

Losing a star like Sir Gino leaves a “hole in the yard,” as Henderson put it. Tomorrow, Constitution Hill doesn’t just run for a trophy; he runs for the morale of Seven Barrows.
