Silks and Shenanigans: Luck of the Irish and Logic of the Brits: Today’s Racing Round-up

If you spent your St. Patrick’s Day chasing pots of gold at the end of a rainbow, hopefully, you were looking at Wexford or Down Royal. While the rest of the world was busy spilling stout, the racing world was busy crowning a few new heroes.

Today’s Winners’ Enclosure (March 17, 2026)

It was a day for the favorites and the “should-have-beens.” At Wexford, the punters’ prayers were answered when Minella Machine (4/5f) roared home in the 17:05, leaving the rest of the field looking like they were running through treacle. Earlier, Connemara Shore (13/2) proved that a little local knowledge goes a long way by taking the 16:32.

Over at Down Royal, the “girls” were running the show. Rockstown Girl (11/1) pulled off a gritty win in the 14:28, proving that sometimes the double-digit outsiders are the ones with the real luck of the Irish. Meanwhile, Lizzie Twigg (4/1) finished the day on a high for Gordon Elliott, because a day of Irish racing without a Gordon Elliott winner is technically illegal.

Tomorrow’s Cards: Wednesday, March 18, 2026

If your wallet is feeling a bit light after today, tomorrow offers three main venues to recoup your “investments.” We transition from the emerald sod of Ireland to the somewhat firmer—but likely still damp—turf of the UK.

• Hereford (Jumps): The action starts at 14:00. Keep an eye on the 16:00, where the market is already whispering about Just Aidan.

• Huntingdon (Jumps): Kicking off at 14:15. A great spot for those who enjoy a mid-week chase.

• Kempton Park (Flat/AW): For the night owls, the floodlights flicker on at 16:55.

Timeform’s “Smart Money” Ratings

For those who prefer cold, hard data over “a feeling in their bones,” Timeform has been crunching the numbers. If you’re looking for the heavy hitters currently dominating the ratings, here is the leaderboard.

• Majborough (Chaser) – Timeform Rating: 177x (Trainer: Willie Mullins)

• Fact To File (Chaser) – Timeform Rating: 175 (Trainer: Willie Mullins)

• Gaelic Warrior (Chaser) – Timeform Rating: 174 (Trainer: Willie Mullins)

• Lossiemouth (Hurdler) – Timeform Rating: 169* (Trainer: Willie Mullins)

• State Man (Hurdler) – Timeform Rating: 167 (Trainer: Willie Mullins)

For tomorrow specifically, Timeform is pointing towards Silver Hill (15:30 Hereford) and Just Aidan (16:00 Hereford) as two to watch. Silver Hill, in particular, is sitting on a tidy 1/1 price in early forecasts—essentially the bookies’ way of saying “please don’t bet on this, we’d like to keep our money.”

For tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Timeform’s top-rated selections and “naps” center on the meetings at Hereford, Huntingdon, and the evening card at Kempton Park.

The standout “Nap” (best bet) from the Timeform analysts is focused on the Hereford meeting.
